Emma + August’s Yosemite Elopement

If you’ve ever dreamed of a day that feels both wildly adventurous and deeply intimate, Emma + August’s Yosemite National Park elopement is such a good example of what’s possible when you give yourselves an entire day to experience it.

From misty mountain vows at Glacier Point to barefoot valley walks and a sunset finale at Taft Point, their day wasn’t about rushing from one photo location to another. They had time to explore, slow down and actually experience Yosemite together.

If you’re planning your own Yosemite elopement—or wondering what a full-day adventure could actually look like—this story is packed with inspiration, location ideas and a glimpse into how much you can experience when your timeline leaves room to breathe.

Emma & August: A Laid-Back Love Story Made for Yosemite

Emma + August are the kind of couple who live for the in-between moments—the soft touches, goofy side glances and deep belly laughs. They wanted their elopement to feel intentional, relaxed and completely centered around the two of them. No rushing from one moment to the next. No audience. Just space to experience the day together.

Yosemite felt like an easy yes. Between the massive granite views, Half Dome rising in the distance and the quieter moments you can still find throughout the park, it gave them the perfect place to exchange vows in a way that felt grounded, adventurous and completely their own.

A Quiet Morning at Glacier Point

Before the sun fully crested the peaks, Emma + August got ready separately, each tucked away in the stillness of the mountains. When they met for their first look at Glacier Point, the world seemed to pause. With Half Dome rising in the distance and morning light slowly spreading across the valley, they shared tearful smiles and gentle hugs.

Then they slowed things down even more. Side by side with journals in hand, they wrote their vows before exchanging them overlooking Yosemite. It gave them time to be present together before moving into the rest of their full-day adventure.

Sunrise can be such a beautiful time to experience Glacier Point. The early start can mean softer light and fewer visitors than later in the day, although this is still one of Yosemite’s iconic viewpoints and solitude is never guaranteed.

Glacier Point is also a seasonal location when accessing it by car, so always check current road conditions when planning your elopement. Glacier Point Road typically closes during the snowy season and reopening depends on conditions.

Midday Wanders in Yosemite Valley

After their emotional mountaintop morning, Emma + August slipped into something cozy and headed down into Yosemite Valley for a change of pace. They wandered hand in hand through the valley, grabbed something to eat and gave themselves time to simply enjoy being there together.

This slower part of the day wasn’t filler between sunrise and sunset. It was part of their elopement experience. They had room to reconnect, rest and take everything in before heading into the final adventure of their day.

That’s one of the things I love most about a full-day elopement timeline. Not every hour needs to be packed with plans or epic photos. Sometimes the quiet in-between moments become some of the memories you love most.

Sunset Dreams at Taft Point

As golden hour approached, Emma + August made their way to Taft Point for the final adventure of their day. The 2.2-mile round-trip trail winds through forest and meadow before reaching the rim of Yosemite Valley, where the landscape opens into massive views across the park.

We gave ourselves plenty of time to hike in before sunset so they didn’t have to race the light. Once they reached Taft Point, Emma + August changed back into their wedding attire and spent the rest of the evening exploring together as the light shifted across Yosemite.

Taft Point was such a fitting way to end a day that had already taken them from Glacier Point to Yosemite Valley and back into the mountains. Instead of trying to squeeze everything into a few hours, they had time to experience each part of Yosemite at its own pace—and finish the day watching the sun disappear over the Sierra.

Planning note: Taft Point is accessed from Glacier Point Road, which is seasonal and typically closes during the snowy months. Always check Yosemite’s current road and trail conditions before building your elopement plans around this area.

The way Emma’s dress flowed in the breeze? Unreal.
The way August looked at her like she was the only person on Earth? Instant tears.

Pro Tips for Taft Point Elopements

If you’re dreaming about ending your Yosemite elopement at Taft Point, there are a few things worth planning for:

  • Download maps and directions before heading out. Cell service in Yosemite can be limited and unreliable, so don’t depend on having service at the trailhead or along the trail.
  • Give yourself more time than you think you need. The Taft Point hike is about 2.2 miles round trip, and your timeline should leave room for hiking, changing clothes if needed, photos and actually enjoying sunset without racing the clock.
  • Bring a headlamp. If you stay through sunset, you’ll likely be hiking back as the light disappears. Each person should have their own light source rather than relying on a phone flashlight.
  • Stay aware around exposed cliffs. Taft Point has significant drop-offs, and some areas are not protected by railings. Photos are never worth taking unnecessary risks near an edge.
  • Check conditions before you go. Glacier Point Road and access to the Taft Point trailhead are seasonal, and temporary closures can happen because of weather, fire or other park conditions.

What Made Their Day So Special

Emma + August’s Yosemite National Park elopement didn’t follow a formula, and that’s exactly what made it feel like them. Their day was built around:

  • Slow, meaningful moments: from writing their vows together to wandering the valley in boots and jeans.
  • Intentional locations: each part of Yosemite gave them a completely different experience throughout the day.
  • An unhurried timeline: giving them space to connect, rest and be spontaneous instead of rushing from one moment to the next.
  • A sunset adventure: ending their day together at Taft Point as the last light disappeared over Yosemite.

More importantly, they designed a day that actually felt like theirs. From mountaintop vows to midday snacks and a sunset hike, every part of the experience reflected how they wanted to spend their wedding day.

What to Pack for a Full-Day Yosemite Elopement

A full-day Yosemite elopement can take you through completely different temperatures, elevations and activities, so being prepared makes the day much more comfortable. You don’t need to pack your entire house, but a few essentials can make a huge difference.

Here’s a packing list inspired by Emma + August’s adventure:

  • Comfortable hiking boots or trail shoes (+ wedding shoes if you want them)
  • Wedding attire + a garment bag if you plan to change on location
  • Layers for cooler mornings and evenings
  • Plenty of water + trail snacks
  • Vow books + pens
  • A blanket or warm layer for slower in-between moments
  • A small backpack for carrying essentials
  • A flashlight or headlamp for any hiking after sunset

Little things like extra bobby pins, bug spray and a reusable cloth for cleaning shoes or the hem of your dress can come in handy too.
