Grand Teton National Park is a protected area and permits make sure that weddings and elopements are conducted in a way that preserves its beauty and minimizes impact on the environment. If you’re planning to have your elopement within the park boundaries, a permit is non-negotiable! So, let’s get into the actual steps.
Step 1: Choose Your Ceremony Location!
The first step in the permit process is selecting where you want your ceremony to take place! Grand Teton National Park offers several approved wedding and elopement locations. Some popular spots include Schwabacher Landing, Mormon Row, and Snake River Overlook. Each location has its own beauty and unique views of the Tetons, so take your time to find the one that speaks to you. Choosing the right location is so important to bring your vision to life!

To officially reserve your elopement spot, you’ll need to apply for a special use permit. This application can be found on the Grand Teton National Park website. It’s worth noting that there’s a non-refundable application fee (currently it is a non-refundable $200). Make sure to submit your application well in advance, at least a 30 days before your planned ceremony date. The park processes applications on a first-come, first-served basis, and some dates can fill up quickly, especially during peak wedding seasons in the summer and fall. Keep in mind that your ceremonies are limited to one hour including set up and photography!
