This Nordic Island offers a setting unlike any other, with dramatic waterfalls, and black sand beaches. I have put together this for those of you looking to elope in Iceland! I have put a lot of useful information for you to reference it when planning your dream elopement at this breathtaking location!
When Should You Elope in Iceland?
Best Seasons to plan your elopement in Iceland!
Summer: The Icelandic summer, from June to August, provides long daylight hours, making it ideal for exploring and taking advantage of the country’s breathtaking scenery. The weather is milder, and it’s easier to access remote locations!
Early Fall: September offers a beautiful transition with fewer tourists, vibrant fall colors, and the chance to catch the Northern Lights! How beautiful would it be to catch them on such a special day in your life, right? The temperatures are still relatively mild, and the landscapes are just as stunning.
Winter (if you like the cold): If you’re a fan of winter wonderlands, consider eloping in Iceland from December to February! The snow-covered landscapes and during this time you can also have the chance to see the Northern Lights this will add a magical touch to your special day!
The Best Time of the Week and Day to Elope in Iceland
Weekdays! Opting for a weekday elopement can significantly enhance your experience. TRUST me! You’ll encounter less crowding, reduced traffic, and increased accommodation availability. Plus, vendors are more likely to be available, ensuring a smoother planning process!
Summer Days: With longer days, sunrise can be as early as 2-3 am, and sunset can stretch to 10-11 pm. This offers flexibility for your ceremony and allows you to capture stunning photos in the soft light of dawn or dusk.
Fall Months: During fall, sunrise is more manageable at around 6 am, providing an easier option for a sunrise elopement! Sunset occurs around 8-9 pm, giving you enough time to celebrate.

How to Prepare to Elope in Iceland
Book Accommodations & Make the Marriage Official!
Make sure to secure your lodging well in advance, especially if you’re planning to elope during peak tourist seasons. Choose accommodations that align with your elopement style and preferences! To simplify the legal process, consider obtaining a marriage license in your home state or country! This allows you to focus on the celebration in Iceland without navigating complex local marriage laws. A vow renewal is a wonderful alternative, and if you bring friends or family, they can serve as officiants. If not, both my mom and I are ordained and happy to help!
